This ESA Commercialisation Gateway event taking place at ESA/ESTEC on 19 April will have a focus on health and biotech. A combination of demographic, market and technology trends is having a profound effect on the transformation of the healthcare sector. The increasing digitalisation of healthcare, emerging new technologies as well as business models, opens up new possibilities at the crossroad of space and health. There is an excellent programme planned and Pierre Blanchet of ESA BIC Noordwijk incubate Meteory will speak in the final session of the day, which covers public health management relating to air quality, climate change, etc.
The effects of microgravity on biological, chemical and physical processes enable both public and private actors to elevate their understanding of a broad range of diseases and to improve as well as develop new medicine treatments for humans on Earth. In parallel, satellite data have historically had a strong impact on human and environmental health with revelations on ozone depletion and more recently contributing to health issues related to climate, epidemiology and water/vector borne diseases. Telemedicine is enabling new forms of outpatient care by providing remote diagnosis, treatment and monitoring, and enabling the emergence of digital platforms.
For all these developments collaboration between institutions, research organisations, industry and investors within space and health will be key to enable a new wave of commercial solutions supporting both sectors.
On the 19 April, the ESA Commercialisation Gateway will therefore host its Commercialisation Day event with the objective of bringing these key actors together as well as opening up to the public to attend. The event will be the first in its series focusing on health and biotech and held at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

The day will be split into three sessions where stakeholders from both sectors will meet, discuss and present emerging needs, trends and opportunities in the form of keynotes, elevator pitches and roundtables.
