The Blue Tulip Awards, the biggest innovation competition in The Netherlands, has reached it’s conclusion. And we are excited to share the good news: ESA BIC Noordwijk alumnus AVY has won the 2020 finals in the category ‘Mobility’.

From the beginning of the competition, we have followed our ESA BIC incubated startups and alumni. We started with three companies, AVY, Roadeo and Polariks in the quarterfinals. AVY managed to get into the finals with 10 other companies.

Avy is an autonomous VTOL (vertical takeoff & landing) wing drone, designed for long-range, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) missions, while maintaining safety and compliance regarding the latest EU regulations. It was made to access hard-to-reach places without the need of infrastructure, and making urgent healthcare accessible to anyone in need.

Last year, a proposition for urban areas became a reality when the company joined forces with other major players in a medical drone consortium.

A flying superhero

On June 11, in an online event, AVY was crowned the winner in Mobility. Dutch news site RTL called the company ‘a flying superhero‘, aiming at its use for urban medical delivery, and being able to be faster than certain emergency services.

We congratulate AVY and its team with this beautiful milestone. We hope it inspires more drone businesses to work with space technology!
